Carrie Christensen, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Seeking support can feel overwhelming, especially when you're navigating addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to move toward meaningful change.

My path to becoming a mental health professional has been shaped by both professional experience and personal resilience. After serving more than 23 years in the U.S. Army as a Chief Paralegal Noncommissioned Officer, I developed a deep appreciation for integrity, leadership, and serving others during some of life's most difficult moments. Those experiences, combined with my own journey of growth, inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to helping individuals discover healing, hope, and purpose.

I earned bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Counseling & Human Services from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and completed a Certificate in Addiction and Recovery Counseling. During my clinical internship at Peak's Recovery Centers, I gained experience conducting comprehensive clinical assessments, developing treatment plans, utilizing motivational interviewing, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support individuals on their recovery journey.

My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. I believe every person has the capacity for growth, regardless of where they are in life. Together, we will build on your strengths, explore barriers that may be keeping you from the life you want, and develop practical strategies that support lasting change. I strive to create an environment where clients feel accepted without judgment and encouraged to explore their experiences at their own pace.

I have a particular interest in working with adults experiencing substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health concerns, trauma, veterans and military families, first responders, and individuals navigating significant life transitions. Whether you're beginning your recovery journey, coping with stress or loss, or seeking greater emotional well-being, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Taking the first step toward therapy requires courage. If you're ready to begin that journey, I look forward to supporting you with compassion, respect, and evidence-based care.
